WEEKLY SUMMARY OF HONG KONG PRESS REPORTS AND COM ENTS.

CHINA
Allegation of Russian aid to the Chinese Communists were prominent during the week under review. General Pai Tsung-Hsi, Minister of National Defence, was reported by the Wah Kiu Yat Po of September 7th as saying that the Russians were openly aiding the Chinese Communists and had transferred to them a great quantity of captured Japanese arms. The same paper on the following day spoke of the supply line through Shantung by which Russian supplies reached the Communists and which the Government forces were attem- pting to break. The Kung Sheung Daily News of September 12th carried the report that during the first half of the month seventeen ships "of a certain nationality" unloaded war supplics at Harbin for the Chinese Communists. The report added that the ships carried soya-beans and kaoliang on the return trip.
The Kung Shoung Daily News of September 8th urged that failing the immediate return of Port Arthur and Dairon to China the case should be referred to the United Nations
Sinkiang again came into the news with a report in the Wah Kiu Yat Po, of Soptombor 7th. that the situation thoro was causing anxiety and that Gonoral Pai Tsung-Hsi, who is a Mohamedan might be sont therein the capacity of Director of the Generalissimo's North Western 01.icos The same paper on the following day remarked that a Separatist Movement in Sinkiang was being worked up by loft wing elements and further disturbancos in this frontier provinco woro foared.
The question of placing Chinese deposits in overseas banks at the disposal of the Chinese Government had again boon raised, and the Hwa Shiang Pao expressed the hope that the "four great families" (1.e. the families of Chiang Kai-Shek, T.V. Soong, H.H. Kung and Chen Lih-Fu) would set an example. It stated that out of the total of U.S.$ 2,000,000,000 in Chinese deposits in the United States, U.S.$ 1,600,000,000 belong to ten dopositers.

HONG KONG.
Reporting the proposed visit of H.E. The Governor to Nanking next month the Wah Kiu Yat Po of Soptember 9th. surmised that the fact that the Financial Secretary would be accompanying H.E. meant that the visit would be the occasion of importart talks on the subject of the China Hong Kong financial agreement. Tho Now Life Evening Post of the following day claimed to have author- ativo information that the reason for holding back the announcoront of the details of this agreement was a request by Hong Kong for further concessions in respect of trade with South China. The Sing Pao of September 11th claimed to have learnt reliably that the detailed agroomont would be signed by H.E. The Govornor in
Nanking.
